Dr Stephen Brienesse is a dual trained Cardiologist and General Physician with sub-specialty training in Electrophysiology and Pacing. He is currently working at the John Hunter Hospital, Maitland Hospital and Barlow Cardiology. His interests include atrial fibrillation and cardiac physiologic pacing.
Dr Brienesse completed his undergraduate and specialty training locally before undertaking a total of 3 years of Electrophysiology and Pacing Fellowship at John Hunter Hospital and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Outside of his clinical roles, Dr Brienesse is passionate about medical education and was one of the first graduates of the University of Newcastle’s Certificate in Clinical Teaching and Supervision. He is a Council member of the Internal Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand and conjoint lecturer for the University of Newcastle.
When he is not working he loves to spend time with his wife and two children, running or cycling around Lake Macquarie.
