New Cancer Services Now Open
Apr 21, 2011
A new day oncology unit is now open for patients at Lake Macquarie Private Hospital. The purpose-built Unit situated in the Lake Macquarie Specialist Medical Centre contains 8 recliner beds and has the capacity ultimately to expand to a total of 16 to 20 recliner beds depending on demand.
Lake Macquarie Private CEO John Pitsonis said the total development cost of the Day Oncology Unit was $1.2 million and it was a major boost to cancer services in the Newcastle region.
“Our new Day Oncology Unit will provide chemotherapy services and clinical support therapies for breast cancer patients as well as treatment for all other forms of cancer for patients throughout Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter region,” said Mr Pitsonis.
“We are very pleased with the facility which aims to provide a comfortable and supportive environment for cancer sufferers and their carers.”
He said the development of this Unit was the first stage of a planned series of development of a full range of private cancer services at Lake Macquarie Private Hospital.
Patients requiring admission to hospital following treatment at the Day Oncology Unit will be admitted to the Hospital.
