Lake Macquarie Private Hospital specialist Nicholas Jackson

Dr Nicholas Jackson

Dr Nick Jackson was born and raised in Hobart where he studied medicine at the University of Tasmania. Following medical school he moved to Newcastle where he went on to complete his physician training in cardiology. Due to an interest in the physiology of arrhythmias and in procedural cardiology Dr Jackson went on to study cardiac electrophysiology at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle and most recently at Toronto General Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

While completing his overseas fellowship he developed an interest in improving the understanding of and treatment for ventricular arrhythmias. This included research on ventricular fibrillation in explanted human hearts, renal denervation for treating post infarction ventricular arrhythmias and new mapping techniques for identifying the critical sites of ventricular tachycardia circuits in human and modeling studies.
Dr Jackson performs Holter Monitors, implantable loop recorders, tilt table tests, angiography and electrophysiology studies to help guide patient management and strives to always maintain a patient centered approach to medicine.
He enjoys being involved in medical education and is happy to participate in the ongoing GP CPD education. Some topics of interest include:
• Managing syncope
• Cardiac arrhythmia ablation (including radiation free ablation)
• New technologies in diagnosing and treating cardiac arrhythmias
• Pacemaker and Defibrillator  management (including lead extraction)
• Mobile technology and Applications in managing heart rhythms

Dr Jackson works in both public and private practice to perform ablations for simple and complex cardiac arrhythmias and cardiac electronic device implantations and extractions. He has worked as a volunteer proctor performing catheter ablation in Myanmar and is a conjoint lecturer with the University of Newcastle.
